-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.  Sex In the Dark- Tuesday 8pm in the Lee Basement

This is an annual program that the RAs host.  You will hear the results of the sex survey that many of you LeeBeau-ers took, find out interesting data, have a good laugh, and possibly win a prize.  This is a memorable event that students rave about.  Don't miss it!

2.  Meet the College Council- Milk and Cookies Study Break Tuesday after Sex in the Dark

Directly following the Sex in the Dark program the Lee Beau College Council will be kicking off their first event of the year- Meet the Council.  Come mingle, see who's leading the event programming in the halls, and have some great food.

3.  Time Management Activity (Yellow Sheet found under your door)

This opt-in reflective activity is the first of many.  Since the first round of tests is currently under way we thought it might be useful to help you reflect on your own strategies of time management.  If you complete the week-long record keeping of your time usage and turn it into Erica by October 9, 2009 with your name on the form you will be entered into a drawing for a $30 shopping spree.

4.  Stars- Recognize your neighbor

In the middle of both lobbies you will find an "RA Only" bulletin board with stars.  Please pick up a blank star and write a note of encouragement, thanks, or praise for someone who's done something worth taking note of.  Place the completed star in the pouch on the right.  We will later staple the star to the bulletin board.  Stop by and fill out a star and check and see if someone else thinks you're great!

5.  Movie Night- every Friday at 10pm in the Beau ground floor west lounge

A new 32" TV has been installed in the west lounge of the Beau ground floor lounge.  Cable is on its way but is currently not installed.  Feel to watch movies (bring your own laptop or DVD player to hook up to the TV) and eventually cable TV.  Every Friday night at 10PM there will be popcorn and a movie for anyone interested.  There are also board games available for you to use.  Ask your RAs to show you the resource room and you can borrow a game.

Have a great weekend!

With much LeeBeau Love,

Erica Townsend

4. Be An Overnight Welcome Leader

Sign-Up to Host a Prospective Student!

Every year, WU invites hundreds of high school seniors to campus for Discovery Weekend, a time when prospective students can get acquainted with the variety of academic and social offerings here.  Many students are hosted overnight in the residence halls as part of this program, and that is where you can be a great help to us.  We are still in need of some male volunteers to host students attending DW on September 24 and 25, 2009. (Visitors leave the morning of September 26.) This is a great opportunity to have an impact on a prospective student's decision to come to WU.  And, because DW is full of activities that students will be attending throughout the day and evening, hosting will not require too much of a commitment apart from giving them a space to sleep in your room.  If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please go to http://admissions.wustl.edu/volunteer/owl/Pages/default.aspx to sign up for the program.

Thank you for your part in ensuring a great visit experience for these students!

Have a safe and fun weekend.  Feel free to stop by my office to say hi or schedule an appointment to speak with me.  I'm here if you need anything.

6.  BLee-B-Q- 1pm this MONDAY- bring your own cup or water bottle for drinks

7.  Dinner with author Julie Otsuka- want to be one of the lucky students to have dinner with her?

-------------------------------------------------------------------

1.  Entry Survey- give us your input and win a great prize

This survey will take about 15 minutes to complete.  It is a survey that helps us gauge your own experiences and what areas of programming you would find beneficial. If you wish, please list your name, student ID# and email address in the last question to be entered in a drawing for one of the following:

-$100 towards any purchase at the Campus Bookstore

-2 six month subscriptions to Netflix or GameFly

There are 3 prizes to win!  Your responses are confidential, and only select staff members will have access to the information you provide.

Please go to the following link and follow the instructions.  Thank you in advance for completing the survey!  http://studentvoice.com/washstl/fallentry09

2.  Service First- Ask your RA for time and location for departure

Service First is TOMORROW, Saturday September 5, 2009.  Each floor has a different departure time and location.  Please ask your RA for more information.  Make sure to wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a little paint on... and bring a water bottle.  Remember to stay hydrated!

3.  Alcohol use and ReddFlag- Do you know the policy?

Please remember that parties are not permitted for freshmen.  A party can be any situation where there is excessive noise or an excess of people.  At no time is it permissible to have alcohol in open areas like a lounge or hallway.  Shots and drinking games are also a violation of ReddFlag.  For more information on the alcohol policy at Wash U go to:  http://reslife.wustl.edu/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=67&Itemid=123#alc

Wednesday August 26, 2009

Greetings 2009- 2010 LeeBeaumont Residents!

I hope this letter finds each of you content and excited about your first day of classes. This is the first of what will, most likely, be weekly updates from me, your Residential College Director. Please take some time to read these updates. There is important LeeBeau specific information as well as great opportunities for you to get involved around campus and beyond. If you have any announcements you would like to see included feel free to email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The updates will also be posted at our Residential College website: http://leebeaumont.wustl.edu/. If you haven’t been to the site check it out! There’s a lot of great information there and soon pictures and videos from Convocation and other orientation events. Stop by my office anytime! Hope to see you soon! -Erica

THIS WEEK’S EMAIL TOPICS:

1. Fire Test tomorrow September 27, 2009

2. CS40- What is it? How do I get involved? What is College Council?

3. First Friday, First Floor Dinners, and the Big Bang

4. Walking to the Loop on Delmar- important info

5. BLee-B-Q on Monday September 7 1-3pm on the lawn between LeeBeau

6. Bicycles to be secured to bike racks only

7. Into the Wild- Hillel Event

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Fire Test- Tomorrow Thursday September 27, 2009 from 10:30AM- 3:30PM there will be fire alarm TESTS. There are monthly tests where the equipment is checked. TESTS do not require anything of you as a resident. The alarms will go off though so you are officially forewarned. A DRILL however is unannounced, happens once a semester, and requires you to evacuate the building after securely shutting your room door and then assembling at our assigned rally points. Lee residents- the grassy area between Lee and Beau Beaumont residents- the grassy area between Beau and Ruby After assembling as a floor your RA will take role to determine who is present. Please wait until a school administrator or member of the Emergency Health and Safety permits reentrance into the building. Please be cooperative. Again, DRILLS are unannounced and should be treated as if a real fire. Anyone who fails to evacuate the building will be required to follow up with me in a meeting. AGAIN, tomorrow is a TEST not a DRILL. It is announced and scheduled which means you DO NOT have to leave the building. But if an alarm goes off later in the semester you should evacuate and assemble at said rally points.

2. CS40/College Council Elections- Those cool water bottles, that awesome viewing of “I Love You Man” on the swamp last night, that was CS40. Congress of the South 40 is a programming body made up of South 40 residents. It is a great way to get involved and take a fun leadership role on campus. LeeBeaumont College Council is governed and supported by CS40. LeeBeaumont is a way for any LeeBeaumont resident to get involved with programming within our two buildings. We have a budget of over $5000 for the year to do whatever you deem worthy with. It is super-fun if you enjoy getting to know other residents, promoting events to your friends and neighbors, determining fun activities and events for your friends to get involved with, if you are interested in event planning, etc… This is not a governing board however; if you’re interested in student government then visit the Student Union booth at First Friday. So sound appealing to you? If so check out the CS40 website for more details at: www.cs40.com and attend the LeeBeau specific info session this Sunday at 9:00PM in the Lee Library. Below is a little more info about running yet I still encourage you to look at the site to find out more and see what specific positions are available for you to fill. Please talk to me or your RAs if you have any interest or questions. I Want to Run! What Do I Do? 1. Read the CS40 Rules and Regulations attached in this packet. Familiarize yourself with the contents and contact either the Election Commissioner or your Residential College Director if you have any questions. 2. Complete the Petition for Candidacy on the insert, gathering the necessary signatures to do so. Be sure to sign the document. Your signature indicates your understanding of the CS40 Rules and Regulations and your agreement to adhere to them. 3. When your Petition for Candidacy is complete, meet with your Residential College Director to have him or her sign it. 4. Turn in your Petition for Candidacy to the CS40 Office by the deadline. 5. Campaign! 6. Attend the CS40/XRHH Retreat!

3. First Friday, Saturday’s First Floor Dinners, and the Big Bang- First Friday is an amazing experience of discovering what all WashU has to offer in regards to extracurricular clubs and student groups. Checkout the sidewalks by the clock tower on your way to the underpass. I encourage each of you to find one social group and one major/academic group to join. This is a great way to meet new people and get a sense of what is going on throughout campus. But remember- everything in moderation! Don’t join too many and find yourself overwhelmed in a month or so. First Floor Dinners- officially take place this Saturday. Please read the following schedule to find out when to meet your floor for dinner and what dining facility your floor is assigned to. Immediately following dinner you will be encouraged to attend the Big Bang. This is a freshmen only event that is as memorable as Convocation. It takes place at the St. Louis Science Center and has SO MANY activities to entertain you and your friends- IMAX movies, segways, tons of snacks and build-a-dino (bring some cash), giant Jenga, karaoke, and much, much more of St. Louis’ best attractions all brought to you in one location. Definitely plan on going. Read below for the logistics: FIRST FLOOR DINNER SCHEDULE Meet on your floor to go to S40 Dining (upper) @ 6:00pm Load buses @ SoFo House @ 7:30pm Bus #8: Lee 0/ 1 (45) Bus #9: Lee 0/1 (20) & Lee 2 (25) Bus #10: Lee 2 (25) & Park 2 (25) Meet on your floor to go to S40 Dining (upper) @ 6:30 pm Load buses @ SoFo House @ 7:55 pm Bus #1: Beaumont 1 (54) Bus #2: Beaumont 2 (50) Bus #3: Beaumont 3 (50)

4. Walking to the Loop on Delmar- Please read the following letter to all WashU residents. The beginning of the year is an exciting time where you are making new friends and reconnecting with old friends. It’s the time of year where you want to explore St. Louis and the campus, especially with this beautiful weather we have been having. As you are connecting and exploring many of you are leaving campus and traveling through and to many of the University’s surrounding neighborhoods. As you leave campus we want to remind you that we have many friends and campus partners who live in the neighborhoods around us. We ask that you be mindful of the surrounding community and live up to the great reputation of Wash U Students. Please be mindful of how your voice carries as you walk by homes late at night and do not yell. The surrounding city asks that you be quiet after 10pm, if police are called you could be cited for a noise violation. Please don’t litter in the neighborhood, you wouldn’t want people leaving their trash on your lawn. While there are many street signs that might look cool in your room please do not remove any street signs, it is illegal to do so. Above all we ask that you be a good neighbor and treat the surrounding neighborhood with respect. Thanks and have a great year! Ashley Swanson-Hoye, RCD of Off-Campus Apartments

5. BLee-B-Q on Monday September 7th 1-3pm on the lawn between LeeBeau- The BLee-B-Q (the LeeBeau BBQ) is our Labor Day BBQ for the entire Residential College. Come hungry and be served scrumptious grilled foods by your RAs. There will be games, music, good food, and great people. Plan to be there! And of course, THE FOOD AND GAMES ARE FREE!

6. Bicycles to be secured to bike racks only- It is campus policy that all bicycles be stored outside and secured to bike racks only. Bicycles inside university buildings, including residence halls, is prohibited. It is also against university policy to lock your bike to any railings or poles of any kind. After this weekend any bikes secured to non-bike rack locations will be confiscated. For your own convenience please move any bicycles that may be improperly stored or secured to bike racks. Thanks!

7. Into the Wild- Hillel Event- Hillel’s annual Into the Wild retreat that takes place over Labor Day weekend at Camp Wyman. Each year we take over 100 Jewish students off campus for a fun-filled 24 hours that introduces them to Jewish life on campus and allows them to meet other Jewish students at Wash U. Up until this year, the retreat was only open to freshmen, however, this year we decided to open it to all classes. We think this retreat is a really great opportunity for Jewish students to engage with the Jewish community at Wash U and make connections that makes them feel more comfortable throughout their time as a college student. If you have any questions about this program or anything else involving Hillel, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Take care, Jessica Jessica Manela Litwack, MSW Director of Engagement St. Louis Hillel at Washington University 314-935-9043 This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. July 2009

Dear Residents, Hello and welcome to Lee and Beaumont Halls. I am thrilled to have you join our community! My name is Erica Townsend, and I am your Residential College Director (RCD). This is my second year as a live-in professional staff member at Washington University, and I am amazed to work on a campus with such intelligent, inspired, and friendly students. The Lee and Beaumont residential community is comprised of all first-year students. Residents quickly find a themselves immersed in a tight-knit community with their floor mates. This year there will be two floors that are a substance-free, Lee 0 and Beau 3, while the other floors are traditional. All residents who choose to live in the substance-free communities are required to sign a contract in which they agree to abstain from using tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs within the community. The Lee and Beaumont RAs are anxiously awaiting your arrival and have already begun to diligently plan events for this upcoming year. These events and programs will engage you and your community in areas of diversity, self awareness, interpersonal skills, citizenship, social wellness, as well as many first-year specific needs. As an incoming Lee/Beaumont resident you are encouraged to participate in and even coordinate and lead these activities. Seriously consider taking on a leadership role on your floor or as a member of College Council. Through collaboration the council members facilitate fun activities and events for the residential college. Previous programs include attending musicals at the Fox Theatre, St. Louis sporting events, attending WashU athletic home games, intramural sports, community service projects, great study breaks filled with food, just to name a few! The RAs and College Council have put on numerous celebrations which honors the spirit of this residential college, they have included events like BLeeBQ, BeauHaus, MyTie Semi Formal, Lee/Beau Marches into April, Concrete Wall Appreciation Day, and much more! This website is designed to help orient you with your new home. Please take some time to peruse the site. There are many people involved in the leadership of Lee/Beaumont; check them out under the 'About Us' and 'Faculty Associates' menu tabs. If you are interested in finding out more about College Council make sure to explore that section as well. If you do not find the information you are looking for feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. I can be reached at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
